Our History

It all started with the establishment of Dansk Kraftemballage AS in 1952. The purpose of the company was to manufacture packaging in solid board.

In 1959 corrugated board was added to the product range and this is today the main product of Smurfit Kappa Danmark AS.

The company was Danish owned until 1976 but due to a generational change it was sold to the Swedish state owned company ASSI (Aktiebolaget Statens Skogindustrier).

The company, including the production facilities, has expanded several times since then and a number of new companies has been established. Consequently, the product programme ranges from simple flexo printed transport packaging to sophisticated detail packaging in preprint and offset print.

The new companies, which originate from Dansk Kraftemballage, called for a new organisation and in 1989 Assi Packaging Danmark AS became the united organ of the Assi group’s activities in Denmark. In 1994 the name was changed to AssiDomän Packaging Danmark AS.

Another organisational change followed in 2001. The Swedish owners AssiDomän AB sold their business units AssiDomän Containerboard and AssiDomän Corrugated to the European packaging group Kappa Packaging and the name changed to Kappa Packaging Danmark AS. In 2005 Kappa Packaging and the Irish packaging group Jefferson Smurfit Group merged into the leading packaging supplier in Europe; the Smurfit Kappa Group.
